For a full day with a private driver, IDR 50,000–100,000 (~$3–6) is a genuinely appreciated tip. For exceptional service — a driver who went out of their way, guided you well, or handled a tricky schedule — 10% of the day rate is generous and memorable. A half-day trip sits at IDR 30–50K (~$2–3).
What the locals actually do
- Bali drivers do not expect tips the way US or European staff do — the all-in price already covers their day.
- Tips are handed over in cash, directly to the driver at the end of the trip.
- Rounding up (e.g. IDR 700K on a 650K day) is a perfectly normal middle ground.
- If the driver declined your tip, that is politeness — pressing once and saying thank you is enough.
