Bali 7-Day Itinerary — First Time (With Ferry Day-Trips to Gili or Nusa Penida)

Why this 7-day itinerary works

Seven days is enough to see the Bali highlights without bouncing between five hotels. The route follows the island's geography: land and decompress on the beach, head inland to Ubud for temples and rice terraces, then return south for the Uluwatu cliffs, Nusa Dua and a final night near the airport. Day 4 is the wild card — a fast boat day trip to Nusa Penida or the Gili Islands — so you get an island adventure with no extra hotel nights. Day 1 — Arrival + Seminyak / Canggu

Land at Ngurah Rai (DPS) and settle into Seminyak or Canggu — both 30–45 minutes from the airport. This day is for decompressing: a beachfront warung lunch, a walk on Batu Belig or Echo Beach, and your first Bali sunset. Arriving mid-morning? A private driver can detour through Pererenan's rice fields. Arriving late? Eat, sleep, start fresh tomorrow. Two nights here also lets you grab a scooter from IDR 100K/day and cruise Canggu before Ubud.

Day 2 — Ubud culture

Transfer to Ubud (1–1.5 hours from Canggu), Bali's cultural heart. Fill the day with the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary (ancient trees, mossy temples, cheeky macaques), Ubud Palace and Saraswati Temple, the Ubud Art Market (bargaining is half the fun) and the free Campuhan Ridge Walk at sunset.

Stay two nights in Ubud — it's the perfect base for Day 3, and the town's cafes, yoga studios and evening Legong performances deserve an evening to themselves.

Day 3 — Ubud rice terraces + waterfall

Start early to beat the tour buses. First, Tegallalang Rice Terraces (20 minutes north of Ubud) in soft morning light; then a waterfall — Tegenungan is closest to town, Tibumana and Kanto Lampo more secluded (bring water shoes, the steps are slippery). Afternoon: a coffee plantation luwak tasting or Tirta Empul, the holy spring temple. The whole loop is easy on a rented scooter (IDR 100K/day), or let a private driver (IDR 650K for 10 hours) handle the hills while you enjoy the view.

Day 4 — Fast boat day trip: Nusa Penida OR Gili Islands

This is the day your itinerary earns its title. Pick one island — both work as same-day fast boat trips.

Option A: Nusa Penida

Fast boats from Sanur or Padang Bai take 45–60 minutes, from IDR 300K–450K one way. Highlights: Kelingking Beach (the T-Rex cliff), Angel's Billabong and Broken Beach. Option B: Gili Islands

Fast boats from Padang Bai or Serangan take 2–2.5 hours, from IDR 450K–650K one way, landing on Gili Trawangan — car-free, laid-back, ringed with white sand. Day 5 — Uluwatu cliffs, Uluwatu Temple & GWK

Drive south to the Bukit peninsula. Start at GWK Cultural Park — the 121-metre Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue is one of the world's biggest. Then Uluwatu Temple, perched on 70-metre cliffs: arrive by 4 p.m., walk the clifftop path and stay for the Kecak fire dance at sunset — tickets sell out on busy nights. Below the temple, Padang Padang and Suluban Beach are classic cliff-and-cave beaches for a swim. Base yourself in Uluwatu or Jimbaran; a Jimbaran beach seafood dinner — grilled fish on the sand by lantern light — is the classic finish. This is a long driving day; a private driver (IDR 650K full day) makes it genuinely relaxing.

Day 6 — Nusa Dua beach / club OR east Bali

• Nusa Dua option: calm postcard beaches (Nusa Dua Beach, Geger), jet-skiing and parasailing at the water-sports centre, Bali Collection for gifts, then a beach club (Karma Beach or Sundara) for a pool-and-cocktail afternoon.
• East Bali option: a loop through Sidemen rice terraces, the Tirta Gangga water palace and Blue Lagoon snorkelling at Padang Bai — one of Bali's prettiest drives and a great contrast to the tourist south.

Both work on a scooter if you ride confidently, but the east Bali loop is long — a driver is the smarter call. End the night in Nusa Dua or Seminyak so Day 7's departure is stress-free.

Day 7 — Last-minute shopping + departure

Milk the morning: Seminyak's boutiques or the Krisna Oleh-Oleh supermarket for coffee, sarongs and spices. Return your scooter (or settle your driver) and head to the airport — 30–45 minutes from Seminyak or Nusa Dua. International flights: arrive 3 hours before departure; domestic, 2 hours.

Gili Islands or Nusa Penida for a day trip?

The Gili Islands are a longer ride (2–2.5 hours) but flat, car-free and beachy once you arrive. For a day trip from south Bali, Nusa Penida is logistically easier; the Gilis reward an overnight stay.
